Peter
Mathers began his guitar studies
at the age of 12 studying at the
Royal Conservatory of Music in
Toronto. Ten years later he
completed a Bachelor of Music in
Performance at the University Of
Toronto. World renowned guitarist
Liona Boyd, has called him "an
exceptionally talented
guitarist". His first album,
"Forbidden Games", recorded in
1986 was a classical crossover
project - a collection of movie
themes and pop songs arranged for
the solo, classical guitar.
Peter's
second recording, "Heartstrings,
Guitar of the Americas", was also
a solo guitar production with his
focus on the 12-string guitar.
Peter embarked on a cross country
promotional tour which resulted
in extensive radio air play
across Canada. In 1996, Peter
signed with Marshmellow Records.
His first recording for the label
"Waiting for a Rainbow" was his
first 'fully produced'
instrumental guitar album. This
CD portrays an in depth
exploration of the 12-string
guitar and is colourfully
embellished with percussion, bass
and keyboards.
His
second album "Sundance",
signalled a significant change in
writing styles, delving into the
popular Latin and Rhumba Flamenco
genres. His latest album, the
just released "Mirage" is a
continuation of the Latin and
Flamenco idioms taken to an even
higher emotional level. The 14
original compositions feature
Peter's fingerpicked nylon guitar
complimented by live drums,
percussion, bass and brass. It's
a scorcher!
Peter
continues to create new songs at
a prolific rate and is presently
writing material for his next
album. Currently he is playing to
appreciative audiences across
Ontario in support of his three
CD's
