 Bio:

The goal of this project is to convey a specific theme into each song, utilizing various percussion/instrumental textures, tempos and song dynamics. As you listen you will hear a wide variety of sounds - congas, bongos, djembe', flutes, violin, tablas, talking drums, sitars, banjos and saxophones. These are "glued" together with the pulsating and energetic bass of Ed Roman, the ambient and ethereal keyboards of Michael Jack, and the always melodic guitar of Steve Middleton. This most definitely - is music for the "Global Village". Many guest musicians appear on this, the group's second cd to compliment The Big Beat Collective sound. A wide variety of cultural influences add to the cd's international flavour, which continues to be an ongoing theme of this "musical experiment". As you listen, realize that over 90% of the performances are entirely improvised. In this way an "honest" and "real" energy is captured. The music is rhythmic and melodic. As band member Michael Jack explains, "What we aspire to is music that is entirely fresh and original. When we're in the studio there are no rules. Everything we do is spontaneous and unrehearsed. I feel this adds to the integrity and emotional content of our sound."
